A mixed bag on intelligent design
I was distressed, but not surpised, last night when I read that the Kansas Board of Education voted that "high school students should be told that aspects of widely accepted evolutionary theory are controversial." Not surprisingly, I side with the Washington Post columnist who imagined God saying to the Kansas board members: "Man, I gave you a brain. Use it, OK?"
The debate in Kansas received a lot of news coverage, but I hadn't heard anything about its prominence in the campaigns for the school board in Dover, Pennsylvania. I'm taking heart in the results there--voters kicked out all eight members of the board who had supported intelligent design. Thank God (and I mean that) reason prevails in some parts of the country. Maybe we'll dodge the impending theocracy yet.
